1940s - Fishermen’s Boat Shop

Fishermen’s Boat Shop, a boat building and repair company, opened its operations in the north waterfront in the late 1940s. Dick Eitel bought the Fishermen’s Boat Shop in 1959, and operated it under that name until the 1980s. Around that time, the business was renamed Everett Shipyard, after Eitel integrated steel into the business model. Over the years, the business has supported numerous commercial fishing, U.S. Navy, Washington State Ferry and other transportation projects. The company, which is now owned by Vigor Marine, is located at the Port’s shipping terminals.

Before there were cranes to hoist boats out of the water, boat repairs were contingent on the ebb and flow of the tides. Most repair work would occur during the low tides of the day in the tidal flats.
